Common sense solution to your problem:

Destroy the old one, and don't worry about 'what if' anything.

In NY its a $200 fine to be in possession of two valid licenses at one time. Destroy the old one (shredder) or at least cut it into a few pieces, or return it to DMV. Depending how busy your DMV is, destroying it yourself is the better option.

I'm a cop in Maryland, and it is a violation of Traffic Article 16 111.1 f to possess more than one license. The penalty for this ticket is $520. I'd say destroy your old license or turn it in to MVA. Like suggested, a shredder works great. Don't cut it in 2 and put it in the garbage.

Don't let any one "borrow" it because you could end up getting a summons for a crime you didn't commit. And trust me, we fund them a lot on traffic stops, search warrants, etc. Get rid of it. It's not worth a $520 fine.
