Is there any way to get this sort of information about the departments without actually visiting them? I'm sure that most of your larger city departments are going to have more of the choices, I just want to get a feel for what I should be looking at. Anyone in Florida have any suggestions?

Check their web pages, mine has a lot of that info.

When I first started I asked to go work in what was left of the Public Housing high-rises and row houses. The guys I worked with were vets of what had once been the Public Housing unit. They knew LOTS of dirty tricks. It was a FAST education. Now I work a busy District and love it, too. Paperwork is not terrible, but can be redundant and percise.

    Armydiver,

You make want to take a week long trip to the area, and do some ride alongs. I would first send in your applications and speak with the recruiters for the agencies. No agency is perfect, but you may like one more than another after sitting next to one of their finest.

I work for an SO in Florida and love it. Normally (not always the case) in Florida SO's are bigger than PD's so there is room for options, special assignments, etc. But your also just a number to the command staff. At the precinct level we are all the same, whether we are in green or blue.

Being military is a big plus with any agency, and you will have to pass a physical/and assessments to get employed. By the way the trip to "search for jobs"/ride alongs is tax deductible, at least it used to be (hotels, milage, food, etc.).

Your user name says "armydiver" and if you want to be a police diver I would definitely think about Broward SO.

And to everyone else.....hola, just stopping by its been awhile.

    Welcome back and good luck.

Broward was up in my top three. I've thought about being a police diver but don't really know much about it. The school I plan to attend the academy at has a police diver training and it was on my list of things to take. Not sure what my current certifications will allow me to skip in the training. Thanks for the suggestion though! I'm headed that way to visit family soon and will see if I can arrange a ride along.
