    army discharge

I was discharged from the army national guard after testing positive for marijuana back in 2005 and I was wondering if I had any chance at becoming a police officer. I have a CJ degree that I just finished up last year. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Anything but an honorable discharge is a MAJOR hurdle and is a DQ for alot of departments.

If you chose to use marijuana while in the Army, who's to say you wouldn't use marijuana while a cop? That's what a law enforcement agency will ask, and the fact you did so while serving in the service is only making the fact you used marijuana (and likely received an OTH) a bigger issue than it would be. Even if you didn't get an OTH discharge (Gen Discharge, etc.), most departments I've seen disqualify applicants who do not have an Honorable Discharge.

Same hiring requirements apply, and you can't work in a support position and that magically change your discharge to an Honorable Discharge so that you'd be eligible to become an officer (nor would it wipe clean the fact you used marijuana while in the Armed Services).

You never posted what type of discharge you received.

You need to look into something else. I don't think any department will consider you.

Why would you smoke pot while in the NG?

    Was the MJ worth it?

I can't imagine it was a discharge other than an OTH if illegal drugs were involved.

Every agency is going to want to know why you received that type of discharge. As soon as you explain it was for smoking MJ. Your chances go to 0%.

Find something else you like to do. I don't think being a LEO is going to happen for you.

I say again was the MJ worth it?

You CHOSE to sign up to join the military. You were NOT drafted. You KNEW the rules about drug use but decided that you were smart enough to beat the system. You got CAUGHT and now you don't like that you are being held repsonsible for your CHOICE.

Life has consequences. NOBODY owes you anything and if anything is owed , it is you to the military for wasting their time and money on a doper.

If you disagreed with the war...WHY DID YOU SIGN UP TO GO INTO THE MILITARY ????

You deserve no more time here. You are a disgrace to the military and to those who choose NOT to use drugs.
