    Question POV Question

Just a quick question that came to mind last night while looking at different emergency LEDs with a friend who is a volunteer firefighter. Do any of you have lights and sirens in your private vehicles? I would imagine detectives or 1811s that don’t have take homes do for quick responses. But what about patrol officers or detectives and 1811s with take homes do you also have some emergency response lights in your cars? I notice in DC there are a lot of random cars with small LEDs on the dash or visor with a laminated paper on the dash saying what agency the owner of the car works for ( for example Official Business Department of Treasury)
Any reasons why you don’t or do have lights?
    Thanks.

No, I know no one who has that. I wouldn't WANT to know anyone who has that on their private vehicle.

Yea I searched it but only found stuff on mostly patrol officers or wanna be's. I am asking the question more on the side of 1811 and detectives who get called out at 3am and might not have take homes.
I seen all types of cars here in DC with Visor and or deck lights from a 95 trans am or Mazda 6 so I highly doubt these are gov owned cars.
Do most detectives and 1811s have take homes?

I only had a take home car when I was on call for something, like being up for the next homicide.

I have yet to encounter any type of police emergency that would require me drive the least bit recklessly from my home to the scene. I like to inflate my own importance from time to time, but there is never a need for a detective to be anywhere so fast he endangers anyone, blue light, sirens or not.

If you are on call then you have a take home. Problem solved.;)

Detectives do not respond to calls in progress. When a detective is called out to a scene, the crime/danger is long over with. There is absolutely no need for a detective to drive fast to a scene.

The only reason I can think of a detective's car (NOT a personal, but department issued) to have emergency lights is if they need to block a road while investigating the scene.

I dont understand the fascination with all the lights. The voly FF guys here spend thousands of dollars for lights on their personal vehicles. When I with the county my patrol vehicle had one dash light in the front and 2 in the back and a siren. People still saw me and got out of my way. If my dept wants me to have more lights, they can buy it. Im not spending my cash on it :D.

    Question

    Thanks for the responses everyone.
So if POV should never be used to take out while on call/duty etc.. Why did I see someone who was from some federal agency in his Mazda 6 yesterday with a deck and visor light and full rear deck light or all the USSS POVs I see parked near my campus with Visor or deck lights showing? Is it to just not get bothered by parking enforcement or local PD with where they park? Is it a different story for the Feds? I’m guessing Federal agencies give their investigators take homes or at least government cars when they need them

    Jeffyc:
Yea I know what you are talking about, my friend is just getting a new Led deck light, nothing special he only has one blue light in his car. If you go on Youtube there are videos of FD guys with tons of lights, $1,000 worth of lights and sirens.

I can't imagine why any USSS would need to be anywhere in a hurry unless they're assigned to executive protection. And I doubt they would be using POV's for that? Are you sure that's who they are?
