Joining the National Guard to eventually enter police force. Any advice?

Hello and thanks for taking some time to help! I greatly appreciate it.

I'll just let you know just a little bit about me. I am 21 and male

I had bad credit and it is currently improving.

I have a GED because I screwed up in High School thanks to alcohol and marijuana. I have done neither in the past 3 years.

I have a never been convicted of anything. Clean criminal record. But I do have 3 speeding tickets that are being handled and cleared.

My current plan is to join the national guard and serve for a few years and hopefully with time my past issues will be forgiven when reviewed.

With my current background paired with maybe 3 years in the National Guard, are my chances of joining the force better or as close to a lock as I can get?

I ask because my main goal is to join the force maybe not so much to join the national guard.

    Thanks in advance

full time guard? if not maybe you should consider full time military (your choice) for 4 years. Several reasons. It will give you a chance to straighten out the credit issue; also they will give you the opportunity to get some college while in. It will also show some stability on your part.

Do regular military and get it over. Depts are willing to accomodate reservists and NG's, but when it comes time to hiring, it might not be an asset. It's tough on a dept to have an officer get called up for a year or so. If you come in with that obligation and another person doesn't?????

But the military would be an excellent way to get some good experience and improve your application facts.
