Really want to be a copy and need help with these questions

Just realized an extra 'Y' is hanging. I meant cop!

    Thanks for reading this,

I am aspiring to be a police officer in the LA area and I am a little concerned whether or not I will be hired and what steps I should take to become an officer.

First off I think being an officer comes with a rewarding entitlement to living what I have defined as an honorable life. With this said my primary reason for pursuing this career is for the stable pay.

I have read an internet article on how to be a police officer.

So the questions are as follows and I have answered them as best as I could. I just want someone to mentor me or guide me in the right direction. Or at least have someone tell me my chances are slim or none.

    1. Earn a degree in criminal justice.
    I have not

    2. Have a high school Diploma or GED
    YES

    3. 20 years of age or older and a US citizen
    YES born in LA

    4. Clean Background
YES? I have received 3 speeding tickets...

    5. Have good health, vision, hearing, strength and agility
    YES, I am physically fit.

    6. Pass lie detector test

Now for this test I got the questions online and here is how I would answer them.

    ------------

Did you tell the complete truth on your job application? Most likely YES

Have you deliberately withheld information from your job application? Most likely NO

Have you ever been fired from a job? NO

Since the age of ( ) have you committed an undetected crime? When I was 8 (I think) I stole a video game CD from KMART but the security guard just fined my mom. A few years ago I sped a few times on canyon roads and never got caught. I smoked marijuana 3-4 years ago and drank alcohol when I was 16 but I have not done this in 3-4 years, never got punished for this.

Since the age of ( ) have you been convicted of a crime? NO

During the past year, have you used marijuana more than ( ) per ( )? I smoked Marijuana about 3-4 years ago and for about less than a month.

Have you used any other narcotic illegally in the past ( ) years? YES. Marijuana 3-4 years ago.

Have you sold marijuana or other narcotics illegally in the past ( ) years? NO but I gave some to a cousin.

Have you ever stolen more than ($ ) worth of merchandise in any one year from any of your employers? NO

Have you even stolen more than ($ ) in moneys in any one year from any of your employers? NO. but at one point I felt tempted to

Have you ever used a system to cheat one of your employers? NO. But again tempted to.

Have you ever had your drivers license suspended or revoked? YES. For speeding and not appearing in court.

Have you ever had any traffic citations in the past five ( ) years? YES 3 years ago.

Have you deliberately lied to any of these questions? NO

    ----------

Now I do not touch drugs haven't done it in 3-4 years I don't even drink alcohol even though there's nothing wrong with that. I smoke 4-6 cigarettes a day. That's it.

I've never been in a court room. I was suppose to have jury duty but I was excused.

    That's it.

I just have one last question do I need the Degree or can I get hired with just training at an academy?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. As you can tell I am very serious about becoming an officer and if I am given the chance I would gladly and faithfully serve.

    Thanks for all your help!

There were several people in the police academies I went through that didn't have a college degree, but most of them were prior military or other professionals prior to becoming a cop. Also, a degree needs not be in criminal justice to be a cop. I've known many cops with degrees in business, psychology, finance, political science, history, etc.

Also, your answers "most likely yes" and "most likely no" need some explaining. You KNOW if you told the truth or not, so it needs to be a "yes" or "no". Anything else would suggest you're withholding information, which is the same thing as lying.

    My mistake

I absolutely plan to tell the truth. I guess I should have rephrased what I wrote. I am planning on answering them truthfully, I just answered that way because I haven't went through it yet.

So I should change Most likely > Will answer ____

    Thanks for your input!

Well... sort of..... Other than your drug use, your distributing drugs to others, you license suspension, and your fail to appear on a written promise to appear.

Obviously a clean background is a relative standard to many people.

Unfortunately, you will have to adhere to the relative standard that law enforcement agencies use.
