Your education and careers

For the officers who do post here regularly. What are your backgrounds? College? University? Several years working management etc. I'd just like to see if there is a pattern or commonality, although I fully realize police officers can come from a variety of backgrounds.

BS in molecular biology.

I worked in a cancer lab for a few years. I also had a couple MOSes in the Army National Guard and then I went ROTC and got branched MSC.

BS and MS in sociology. I didn't graduate with my bachelor's until 1977 when I was 32 years old. Finished my masters at 36.

Enlisted in the Army, went to OCS after two years enlisted. Served 4 more years in infantry, got out in 1970.

Sold cars for a few months, took the police test as kind of a lark. Not sure if I wanted to be a cop or not. Worked 28 years, 10 yrs uniform. 18 as a detective and then detective/sgt.

In high school I wanted to be an engineer. Found out I wasn't much good in higher math.....:(

I didn't really know what I wanted to do with myself. I am a reasonably well rounded prudent thinking individual. I could have obtained my engineering degree, which is what I almost did.
But I knew I wanted to do something in law enforcement. I knew I would enjoy it and be able to retire happy one day.
I obtained my bachelor's in criminal justice in May '07.
I'm on a roll now, never looking back.:D

Undergrad concentration in Public Relations. Dropped out and went into banking, and was promoted into management. Left that field for LE, and was promoted into management. Now back in school to complete my BS in Criminal Justice.

Minor in music theory, and also a few credits shy of another bachelors in gerontology.

I was a commercial/residential painter during college.

I got my BS in Biology with a minor in chem and physics. I started to work in a lab but found out they paid less than the job I already had and then couldn't really explain why I had just spent 6 years in a science major.

Army? Science geeks are supposed to be in the Air Force.... so that's what I did.

I got my graduate degree because I thought I wanted to teach at the community college level. Then I found out I could make more working at a convenience store when I figured the pay and hours I'd have to put in.

Actually, I probably would teach part time if they had extention classes in the town I live in. They have some here, but they are non credit stuff, home finance, etc. The don't have any sociology or even CJ classes. The main campus is about 20 miles from me and I'm not driving that far for the piddly little pay they give to P/T instructors.

11 years as a USBP Agent (7 1/2 of those as a K9 handler), 6 months as a Supervisory Border Patrol Agent.

I dabbled in some college, worked in management long enough to realize I hated it, then become a cop. Life is good now.

college full time, work part time, BA in history.
3 1/2 years full time work experience after college in an unrelated field to LE.
