    "Do cops watch COPS"?

This is probably not a question of great importance, but I'm bored and I'm curious.

My brother is a surgeon and he gets the biggest kick out of watching doctor/hospital shows on TV. He'll sit on the couch and eat pizza while watching the most gory scenes. Then he chuckles at the most inappropriate moments, and when I ask him "why???" he'll go into a big monologue about how it's all "so unrealistic" and he'll tell me how that surgery is properly performed. As much as I like food, I don't usually eat while I'm there.

So I'm just wondering if any of you enjoy watching cop shows/movies just for laughs and giggles (or any other reason, really)? Do you ever sit in a movie theater and tell your buddy how the script writer f***** up the interrogation (umm.."interview") scene? Do you ever choke on your popcorn because a cop on TV makes an arrest without wearing his hat?

What are you favorite/least favorite cop shows and/or movies, and why?

    My favorite is Reno 911.

I watched Cops when they filmed in our area. I watched one episode of John Bunnell with the S.O. and that was enough of him. When they filmed guys on my dept., they did the same thing by taking people who were odd balls and not representative of the guys and filming them. Frankly, I was embarrassed.

The best I've seen was the first year of Hill Street Blues. I thought it was fairly authentic. After the first year, it became a silly soap opera. I quit watching after I saw the woman defense attorney rip a report out of a detective's typewriter. If that happened here, she'd have been french kissing the linoleum, not the precinct captain.....

I watch COPS sporadically. It is one of the few shows I do watch. I love CSI - Las Vegas as well, and yes, I have yelled at the tv that they were doing it wrong.

I am sad to say that I will watch Reno 911 too. More than one instructor at FLETC told me that my real life back up was more likely to be from Reno 911 than COPS.

I've known him for years. He's as full of himself in person as he is on TV. He was only sheriff for one term, a city A/chief ran against him, beat him and then tossed out all his butt boys he'd promoted.

He's a member here, under his real name, of course. He was last here 11-27-08.

Bunnell was probably shopping for free story lines...

Reno 911 is the most accurate Cop show on TV. I've actually known a Cop who set his briefcase full of bottle rockets afire, and I can ascribe each personality to a Cop who I really worked with... and most of them are Bosses, now.

The movie was a bust, tho...

I haven't seen Cops in... maybe a decade.

The CSI shows are beautifully shot, for which I have admired, but as an actual Crime Scene Tech who did the job for years before it was a hit, they totally screw up public perceptions and most of all... Juries... and despite being a Gary Sinise fan, I think all the CSI shows storylines suck.

I'll watch a good cop movie when they come out but I try to remember it's just a movie and try not to nit-pick it to death over where they screw up. That said, I'm sure my wife does get tired of hearing me mumble under my breath, "Oh Bull$hit. That'd never happen in real life."

I don't watch much "reality" cop shows or TV in general...except 24 (if you can call that a cop show) but that's only cause I wanna be like Jack Bauer when I grow up.

LOL... my wife & I were watching "Hancock" on dvd yesterday.

My wife was making a statement about how the female wouldn't really have said something IRL... like the rest of the whole movie was real life... :D

We don't have COPS here in Germany. I liked THIRD WATCH when it was on TV here, sometimes I watch the CSI shows and other "realistic" cop shows. Just for entertainment.. Most of the cops movies are pure (edited word) uhm fiction.

Mine, too. I still remember the first time I saw it. It was already in progress and I thought it was a real police show. Then they started betting some kids they couldn't jump their bikes across two buildings or something, and I was like, "Who are these guys and what department is this?"

The really scary thing is I can identify every single character on Reno 911 with some cop I worked with or at least knew. And I don't mean they were "kinda like" them, they were clones......

That was what I liked about the first year of Hill Street Blues. I felt like I knew everyone of those guys, but in a good way.....

I watch cops just as much as I used to. When I see it on I will watch it but I don't look for it.

But now I watch it from a constitutional point of view. The whole time I am watching it I am thinking of how that officer is going to articulate what just happened in his report. I am thinking of what a lawyer would say in the defendant's case.

It's weird watching cops before I was a cop vs. after I am one.

I watch it with a total different mindset.

after a while, the reality cop shows take on a question mark.

Like if we know this idiot, why are we chasing him at 120 mph
    for a freaking misdomeaner.

Yeah, Im a little burned out on tv.

Maybe its because Lenny died on Law and Order:p

I was just over at my brother's and COPS was on. There was some slow speed car chase and when the guy stopped, the officers all crowded up, opened the door, one officer reached in after the keys I think, others are yelling at the driver to get out.

I'm yelling at the TV, "What are you doing?" "Pull his ass out of the car!" "Quit gabbing already and grab him!"

They finally did drag him out of the car and I breathed a sigh of relief that he hadn't pulled a weapon while they were all up in his face yelling instead of acting.

My sister in law said, "This is fun. I've never watched COPS with a cop before."
