    Foreign Language Proficiency

Several departments in my area and I am assuming around the country offer pay incentive for those that are able to speak a foreign language.

I was wondering what type of proficiency exam is administered and at what point a new hire would be allowed to take it.

Several years ago I student taught french in a high school (freshmen - seniors) after taking the language for 7 years. I even took a group of high school kids to France on a trip with two other teachers. However, it has been many years since I have had anyone to speak with. Living here in Texas, french isn't exactly an every day thing.

So I was really just curious to see what all the test would cover and how difficult it may be. I am apply to a local PD here this year (fingers crossed) and am not sure if this could be part of the hiring process or something I would have to wait on until after probation or something. Thanks.

I believe this is how we test foreign language speakers (the military testing protocol).

I'll bet many local departments adopt and use this standard as well.
