When I worked the Philadelphia highways I would rack up anywhere from 200 to 300 miles a shift. Now, working at a county barracks, I'm usually around 100-150 miles in an 8 hour shift.
The most important thing in conversation is to hear what isn't being said.

When gas prices peaked, we were barely rolling.
Maybe 120 miles per shift.
Right now, maybe 175 to 200 on a slow night.On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL

Large Sheriff's office with about 2200 square mile jurisdiction. I have both rural and urban areas in my District I work. I average 300 miles a shift minimum unless I am caught up in something that takes a while. Sometimes I drive as much as 500. With honor guard I travel across the state several times a year.
I got a 2007 Impala in April of 2007, brand new. As of 01/20/2009 when I put it in the shop for service, it has 56,500 or so miles on it.
