What are the rules of organized fighting?

Hi, i'm 18 and I'm into kickboxing and MMA and that kind of stuff, and getting some lessons. but i was wondering, cus I saw this at a party.

These two guys put on boxing gloves and started fighting, it wasn't like a street fight. Once the guy couldn't hit back it was stopped right away.

    I have a few questions.

If someone was going to organize something like this, where there are 2-3 refs (not professional) and we fought with gloves. Would that be illegal?

And also, if it was 17-18 years+ doing it then what happens?

And lets say a neighbor thinks it's a serious fights so calls the police, what would happen? If we both give a waiver or something then are we fine? Or are there laws for things like this.

And is there anyway to make this legal, so we can have organized fights?
Can u tell me what i have to do (waivers and that kind of stuff)

Also sorry, I'm majoring in pre-pharmacy and i know NOTHING about the law. (except for the obvious) but like this, i want to be 100% POSITIVE!

    Thank you.

ok i wouldnt try to organize fights, you could be liable and all other things if someone gets hurt.

But their is nothing illegal if to people want to hit each other on private property with both giving consent.

I understand the injury problem, but I'm planning on making ppl sign waivers that they can't sue me. If they don't want me to sign, that's there problem.

Why wouldn't you just do this where you train?

    Bad idea otherwise....

    Just my opinion

This delves into a legal area beyond the expertise of most Law Enforcement Officers, IMHO.

You need to check with a competent Lawyer in your state/county/city about this.

I am 90+% sure that he'll advise you not to do it even if it is legal... waivers or not, it's a huge liability for you.

Good luck, they can (and will) sue you if they get injured, waiver or not.

The police are not your concern, its getting sued that should concern you. It is not a police issue if those who are fighting are willing participants. For it to be considered an assault, it has to be an unwanted touching.

If you do this fighting in a public place however, you could all be arrested for disorderly conduct.

    My advice: DON'T DO IT

You've already been told that if the participants are willing and in a private place, then there's no criminal wrongdoing.

You said that it's over when one can't hit back. However, remember that even if one says, "that's it I'm done", then it's done. If you or anyone continues to strike him after he has verbally abandoned the confrontation, then it has become assault.

The civil issue, as you've been told, is your biggest concern. Even willing participants can sue your pants off and WIN.

Yeah, waivers aren't worth the paper they're printed on. If they can prove some sort of negligence on your part, a waiver is worthless. As others have said, there's really no crime unless you do it in public view. That said, if the fight is so loud that it causes the neighbor to call the police, it could still subject you to being charged with a breach of the peace or a noise disturbance.
