    A Request for a Detective...

    Hello,

This might sound like a lot, but could I trouble a detective (or related position) for an interview that I need to do for a career research paper for my english class, please? I am asking here and I am also going to call two of my local police departments again tomorrow for a possible interview as well, and I want to keep my options open. I don't to have this until Monday the 19th, but I know that officers usually always have a busy schedule and this is not a top priority on their long list of to-do's. If you can help, here is the list of questions I have prepared in advance. Don't worry, i've tried to keep the list pretty slim and simple at only eight questions, which I think should be very easy and not a waste of your time.

    1. Why did you choose to be a law enforcement officer?

    2. What do you like most and least about being a detective?

    3. Do you have an interesting story to share about your career?

    4. What courses or field of study do you recommend I take to prepare myself for being a detective in the future?

    5. What are the chances of advancement to other specialized positions within your department?

    6. What are some challenges that you face?

    7. What are some moral dilemmas you face in your career?

    8. Is there anything else that you would like to share about your career with me?
By the way, I'm going to cite this as an email since its the most relevant, and I will not need your email address or any personal information, so if you decide to reply, the subject should already have "Re: Detective Interview" in it. I'm going to give the interviewee that I use for my final copy full credit. Thanks to everyone who helps me out, or, considered it.

I know you feel your question is harmless, and don't see any big deal in us answering it, but we get this sort of question A LOT!!! And it's been answer a LOT! Please, do a search and follow-up by interviewing a real officer at a nearby department (which you say you will do).

Also, if you're interested in this topic, I assume you're interested in being a detective one day. Develop your investigative skills now, and search the forums already written. That's what we investigators do when we need information. ;)

I don't mind helping people (especially kids) out, but that would take ME writing essays. And I already graduated from school.....

OK thanks, I'm going to try calling earlier today than before and see if anyone is available.

EDIT: Found they don't work on weekends anywhere. Hopefully I can get one on Monday.
