Iam still waiting for my background to be completed in Dallas for police officer.I was offered a position with county sheriff dept as a Detention officer.Went thru
a lot including PT test - drug and Physical and will start their academy soon. Is this a wise choice while pursing a LEO position.

What are you going to do if you are offered a job by Dallas while in the other dept's academy?

The academy is only 6 weeks long. I could not turn down the job offer because
I must support my family. The Dallas academy will not start until march 21. I will have to leave the detention job if dallas calls.

We had a guy in my academy who was also on the firefighters' list. As soon as they dept found out he was waiting to be a fireman, he was canned. If you have to have a job before the academy, fine. But it won't be a feather in your cap that you took any job intending to quit a few weeks later.

Bottom line is your wasting the sheriff's money. I don't find that particularly admirable.

Both Dallas and the Sheriff Dept have been told. My background investigator in Dallas said that it was no problem, since I have a family to support. The sheriff dept is desperate for able bodies and have a very high turn over. If thing's don't work out for me in Dallas they encourage me to stay. My bottom line is both parties have been told up front since that was the right thing to do.
