    Collar Brass

Hello, I was just hired and sworn in yesterday as a Deputy Sheriff. My uniform and all of the "accessories" was thrown at me. The only thing I have a questions about how to wear is the collar brass. Is it supposed to line up with something or be parallel to the collar? Any help would be appreciated. Also, the duty belt I was issued is terrible. Any suggestions for a good duty belt that isn't $200. Thanks!

Call someone at your department and ask! You may not be able to wear anything but what is issued with you. The only people who can tell you are people on your job.

You'll really have to check with your agency to see how they wear their collar brass. I've seen agencies that wear the brass across both points, and some that wear it up and down.

As to the gun belt, ask around and see if anyone has one to get rid of. I bought one off of a guy getting ready to retire who was a reserve. It was way to big for me, but I brought it to a leather shot and had them cut it down and put new holes into it, and it saved me a ton of money. You may even want to check the used equipment section here to see if anyone has one.

Best belt I have ever owned:

Bianchi AccuMold Elite Sam Browne Duty Belt. Runs about 80.00 bucks from Galls.

I am in ONE HUNDRED PERCENT agreement with 7mmMag!!!! The price is VERY good for this belt and WELL worth it. Can't say enough good about it. It's extremely comfortable and very good to help with easing or preventing the lower back issues we all deal with on some level (two lower back surgeries here).

As to your collar brass, it varies with each department, but at my department it's one thumb width from the bottom and one from the side. Brass going up and down.

If I were you I'd ask before you show up and look even more like the FNG

    Good luck!

My last agency collar brass was worn perpendicular to the point of the collar.

Yeah, I didn't ever wear it unless I was on a detail somewhere, and the Bosses on them could have cared less.

Our brass was our rank stripes.

My first agency wore their Acronym across the front thread line.

Don't be the guy ...like me... who, after being given his first set of stripes, took his shirt and the stripes to the cheapest seamstress he knew, then proudly walked into Roll Call wearing them upside down (unless you were in the UK or the army...).

I started paying attention to details after that...

    Thanks Mom...
