Help! I Dream of Being a Pa State Trooper!

    Hi!
My situation is that my father was an alcoholic when I was youger and still is. He was arrested for D.U.I. when I was very young and I myself have been given an underage drinking citation within the last year. I'm 17 and I have no previous citations other than the Underage Drinking; not even a speeding ticket. I'm a graduating senior with strait A's. I'm a good person with all the qualities to be a public servant and protector. My parents are divorced and I live with my mom who is a well respected school teacher to this day. It is my understanding that the state police look at every aspect of an applicants life when reviewing applications. Is it likely that my fathers alcohol problem and my underage will be linked at my time of application and prevent me from being recruited? Will my parents being divorced hurt my chances as well? Please answer.

Nothing your parents have done or will do will have any effect on your application.

The underage drinking citation will come up, but since you have at least 5 years before you will be applying, it isn't a dealbreaker.

Keep your nose clean, keep the grades up, maybe learn a foreign language, and you'll be fine.

    Hey,

I'm a Pennsylvania State Trooper and I can tell you that, based on what you posted about 17 years of life in one paragraph, your prospects look good. Do the State Police delve into all the aspects of your life? Yes. Will they talk to all your friends, co-workers, former bosses, teachers, etc.? Yes. Are they looking for angels? No. Just make sure you are open and forthcoming about your Underage Drinking citation and you should be fine.

Concerning your father, as mentioned, it will not be held against you. Again, as mentioned, stay out of trouble and keep working hard. You'll do fine.

If I can help you with anything else, please ask or send me a PM.
The most important thing in conversation is to hear what isn't being said.

What he said with one thing to add.

If I was doing your background the concern would be if your fathers an alcoholic and you had an underage drinking citation, are you going to be an alcoholic. How much and often have you drank underage?
So what ever the case may be, I wouldn't drink from now on. Even when your of legal age. It will show maturity on your part when it's time to apply.

    Good luck.
Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"
