Background Check Question

Quick question regarding some information about the background checks performed before employment. Does anyone know if having webpages on sites like Myspace or Facebook hurt your chances of employment? I currently have one of both, but have nothing incriminating or offensive on either. What does this say about my image or morals? I have contemplated deleting them both for the sake of going to the academy and would without question. Should I do it now or wait until further down the road? For the most part I use these sites as ways to keep in touch with friends and family I have from out of state. Any input is appreciated.

Some agencies look at it, some don't. Depends on where you apply. If there is nothing bad on it, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If you wouldnt mind your mother looking at your myspace or facebook page it probably wont hurt you.

I know of a student trainee and LEO hopeful in my department who quickly left after someone printed her myspace which depicted her throwing up drunk in a number of pictures and throwing up gang signs with a bunch of thugs.

I don't have anything like that on my site. Mostly pictures of my family, dogs and things of that nature. Like I mentioned before, it is mostly to communicate with distant friends and family.

Then no, however an angency may click on subsequent pags like those of your friends so be aware of whats on their pages as well.
