Legal Age to Move Out

I am 17 years old. I live in Delaware. I was wondering, is it legal for me to move out of my parent's home without their consent? I have been told this is true, but I would like to double check.

under 18 you would have to go to court and become an emancipated minor.

And why do you believe that you would be better off on your own as opposed to being with your parents ?

FWIW...I left home at the ripe old age of 17 BUT had already finished high school, had enjoyed the summer off and than went into the military ( with their blessing).

I think that I would be able to support myself. I am finished with high school. I was taking courses on the internet. (James H. Groves) I've basically never had any sort of relationship with my parents. I've been taking care of myself since I was 12. I'm a smart girl, I know good from bad. I've always had to be that way, or I'd have to take care of the situation on my own and I didn't think I could handle that. But I am finally ready.

Tell you the same thing I tell every minor that tries to runaway... look at both sides of the fence.

Figure out how many of your own bills your paying now. Figure out how many bills your parents are paying without asking for your help. Figure out if your job nets you enough money to pay those bills....

Then realize... its true... the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

HOW will you support yourself ? Job ??

Do you have medical insurance ?


Transportation ?

What is your plan for the next year ?

The next 3 years ?

What will you do if you fall on HARD times regarding your place to live and your income ?

Do you have the means to do your own laundry and cook your own food ? Eating out is NOT an option , you will NOT be able to afford it.

I am living with my aunt about 2 hours away from my parents. I just want to make sure that she can't make me come back home. I will try for emancipation if Delaware offers it. I am looking for jobs in the area right now. I do have transportation. I don't eat out. I would be moving in with a friend when I hit 18 late this year. I would get a job soon after arriving there.
