    What was YOUR reaction?

In the background questions page, I see some members posting their testing status. A lot of them will post "got the call," when they obviously got the call saying they're being offered a job and are in line to go to the police academy.

What I'm curious of is what did you do when you got the call saying you were now going to be a cop? Was it something simple like, "Well thank you very much. That really made my day!" Or was it something like you'd see on The Price is Right when Grandma wins a new car?

I guess it's really putting the cart before the horse here since I'm still in the application process, but I don't wanna do anything stupid when, and if, I ever get "the call." Plus, I guess I'm just curious as to what others have done when they found out they're gonna be a cop.

    Thanks.

Wiggum: Uh, cancel that APB. But, uh, bring back some of them, uh, gyros.
Friday: Uh, Chief? You're talking into your wallet.

Well, my call was a bit unusual. This admin puke from DC (she's the DEA's problem these days) told me that the good news was that I was hired, but the bad news was that it was not where I hoped. She then said I could "choose" between Manhattan and Brooklyn.

I was in a suit, preparing to walk out the door to my a funeral (my wife's grandmother just passed away) and asked to have until the next morning to discuss it with my wife, as it was a big move (hence, a big decision). She said, "no" and after a few choice words, I asked to talk to her supervisor. I was subsequently given until the next morning to give my response.

There was no big ordeal. My wife said, "I guess we're going to New York" and we headed to the funeral.

I didn't get a call, as I remember I got a letter. I was working during the day at another job and wouldn't have been home to take the call anyway. I called them the next day and said I'd accept the job and was told when and where to report.

But unlike most, I wasn't all that sure I wanted to take the job. I only took the test because I was tired of the job I had and was looking for something different. I was still kicking it around in my mind whether or not to call and tell them to forget it up to the day I reported. My best friend was like me, they had to write him two letters, he threw the first one away because he had changed his mind. The guy from personnel finally came to his house and convinced him to take it. He retired about the same time I did......

I thanked the person on the phone and was told what to bring with me on day 1. I brought up things on the do list that weren't mentioned. We both laughed. I was happy that I didn't get a last minute call or no call at all.

I got one "the letter" and two "the calls." The first department I worked for gave me a letter, and since it was for a reserve position, I was happy but not as excited as I would have been if it were a full-time offer. The second department gave me a call, and being that I was working at a job that I didn't want to make a career out of, I was really stoked! The second call came from my current job, and I remember I was so stuned that I told the lady, "This is a lot to take in right now, I absolutely accept the job, but can I call you back tomorrow to get more of the details?" The lady I was speaking with was much more pleasant than the one Switchback had to deal with, so I got off the phone and explained to my FTO who just called me. Fortunately for me, he was cool about it and kept it private over the next month until I let the chief and other supervisors know about it.

The two times when I got the call, on the inside I was definitely the old woman on The Price is Right who just won by bidding $1001 when the person next to her bid $1000, but on the outside I was a little more composed as both times I was at work at my current job when the call came in.

Was at work when I got the 'call', and like ROS, was doing The Price is Right on the inside, but like Roger Dat, just said "Thank you" and "See you then".

Second call was to my wife, and then spent the next 20 minutes or so typing up a resignation, since they had called exactly two weeks to the day from their start date.

When I got the call, like some of the others, it was "The Price is Right" on the inside, but a simple "Thank you very much" was all that was required. She advised me to swing by Procurement to pick up my gear and by her office to pick up reporting instructions..."Will do, see you tomorrow."

I too had to immediately put in my notice. My employer was well informed of the fact that I was entering LE and applying with this agency. They knew every step of the process and my results, so when the call came, it was no surprise.

    Yep, that's me. Twice.

I'm sure they must have been phone calls, because if they had been letters I would have saved them.

I have every check stub that I ever received from almost every job I've had... excluding the "Manpower" jobs I had while I was waiting for my college classes to start.
