Christmas Lights on a Car?

On my way to work this morning at about 6:20 AM, I was driving down the highway and was passed by a light colored mini van. The vehicle had christmas lights strung all across the roof racks. The lights were a constant blue, red, and orange.

Now, knowing that any visible blue light on a non-emergency vehicle is against the law in Texas, I was curious to know if any of yall would stop and ticket this guy or just tell him/her to take them down?

It seems like it would be an honest mistake but there have been a large rush of officer impersonations going on near here recently. Granted that anyone that would mistake Christmas lights on a mini van for an actual police vehicle would probably be a bit off anyway.

For something like that I would probably use my discrection and let it go. I would not even pull that car over.

In Texas, that isn't approved lighting.

Also, red can't be visible from the front.

I wouldn't stop him unless there appeared to be more to it than just some guy trying to decorate his van for Christmas. If it looked like a "Mom and Pop" van trying to be cute, I wouldn't bother. In the realm of human events, who should really care? No one is going to mistake it for an emergency vehicle.:rolleyes: Of course, if it was some dirtbag, then it would be a good excuse. But most dirtbags aren't going to put Christmas decorations on their vehicle either.

I guess the reason I hated working traffic division was because I never cared for the robotic attitude of "if it's on the books, they deserve a ticket!"

GREAT pretext stop.

I once stopped a guy that had a plastic Godzilla (about 2 feet tall) glued to his hood. Wrote him for obstructed view and smoking the reefer. :D
