    Quick Question

I am in college and alot of drinking and going out at night happens as everyone knows. I do not drink anymore because I am majoring in criminal justice and want to be a LEO.
But this is my question, to begin with we are all 18 yrs old and when we go out, we usually go in my truck because I refuse to drink and drive and my friends probably would be idiots and do it so I try to do the right thing. Anyways since usually alot of us go out and we are all in my truck, I almost always have more people than are supposed to be in my truck, sometimes I have people in the bed of it. I always make sure the people that have been drinking are in the cab buckled up though. If I get pulled over do you think I will get in trouble or do you think since I am doing the right thing will they be ok with it? Also will this look bad for me when I start applying at departments in 4 years after graduating? By the way I live in Florida. Thank You!!

I'd find friends who don't drink or at minimum don't go out with the ones you have when they are drinking. Drinking can equal stupid behavior and you can get sucked into it even though you're sober.

You're being a nice person by driving them around, but you're not responsible for their dumb behaviors. It's a risk you don't have to take.

While i appreciate you trying to do the right thing by your friends lets do the scenario game.

You have 3 people in your cab and another 2 in the bed of your truck after drinking. You approach an intersection and a driver runs a red light hitting your truck. One of your passengers in the bed who is not bucked gets ejected from the bed and dies as a result of severe brain trauma.

I agree with ret det, dont go out when there drinking or find a different group of friends. I didnt drink under age because of my career choice and never hung out and put myself in a bad situation that could have jepordized my chances of being hired.

If you want to be a LEO, stop putting yourself in a position for something to happen. Tell your friends that you will meet them where they are going. They need to be responsible for themselve's. Do not be the crusader.

These people are NOT your friends. Find different ones.

Thank you for all the responses. I understand what all of you have mentioned to me. My problem is this though, I know that if I do not drive them, one of them is going to get behind the wheel drunk and I do not want this to happen. I live in the same house as two of these people and I have known all of them my entire life. What else do you suggest I do because I would feel like crap if something happens when I refused to take them!

Lesson #1. As a cop you cannot save the world.
Lesson #2 If your friends would rather put you in bad situation so they can get shi&faced instead of making other plans or calling a cab to get home safely then they arent your friends.

Announce to your friends that you can no longer provide taxi service for them. You hope that they will do the right thing and not drink and drive but whatever they CHOOSE to do is up to them.

You are risking too much to keep doing this. They dont care about your future so you might as well find some friends that DO.

When you eventully apply to become a Police Officer, they wil be LONG gone. But anything that they do or have done could jhave an effect on your getting hired.

Like one of them taking a leak out of YOUR truck. You are responsible. One of them throwing something out of your truck. You are repsonsible. One of them having a medical complication in your truck. You are repsonsible ( you knew they were drunk). One of them starting a fight in the back of your truck...need I go on?

Might something like this never happen ? Sure , but it could and it's YOUR future we are talking about here and why would you be willing to risk it so your underage friends can go break the law ?? That will look wonderful on a resume'.
