I wish they would buy back my sick leave time.

Under the old plan they did but that was one of the things they changed with the new FERS plan. I've seen plenty of guys retire with 1000+ hours of sick leave and they don't get any benift for saving that time. :mad:

We have a strange buy back, it's not 100%. You get nothing for the first 400 hours, 24% for the next 400, 50% for the next, 75% for the next and the remainder up to 2000 hours you get full pay. It's not a tremendous amount, but it's some reward for not abusing sick time.

The state, who everyone else in Oregon is in, has some way of incorporating it into the pension itself. I don't understand that part either.

I was able to sell my vacation at 100% and had the max of 400 hours when I retired. It was a nice check, but as I said, Uncle grabbed nearly 40% of it off the top. A big payout check of any kind isn't going to be what it's cracked up to be after the IRS gets their bite.

Whatever happened to that bill in the House where they would pay us for anything over 500 hours of sick leave?
