    Speeding Ticket with wrong address

My friend got a speeding ticket today for 80mph in a 60mph. (Heavy foot)

The Washington State Trooper who issued the citation put down the wrong address on the ticket. The question He and I have is how his court date will get to him with the wrong address.

I have also heard that if the officer/Trooper who has issued the ticket and has put the wrong info on it, it is automatically dropped. However, you cannot always believe what you hear.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Call the court that will be hearing the case. See if there's a number to call on the ticket.

Yeah... and if the officer put down that your car is "gold" instead of Harvest Champagne, or "yellow" instead of Malibu SunFire, it also gets dropped.

How do people come up with this nonsense?

No. He can take it to court and ask the judge to dismiss it, but I doubt he will. The error has to have something to do with the charge or otherwise pertinent.

That's sort of along the line of asking if the ticket is good because the officer wasn't wearing his hat. It's a very minor mistake to put a wrong address down.

He will need to take responsibility and call the court for his court date.

An incorrect address (caused 99% of the time by an old address on a driver's license that was not updated after a move) will not void the ticket.

It wont get tossed over a wrong address ( and how wrong was it ?) And if he doesn't appear , there will be a warrant out in the correct NAME anyway.

Thanks for the very fast replies.

I will tell him to call the court and ask them what he should do to clear up the mistake. That is allot better then getting a warrant for missing his court date when it was sent to a different address.

Curt you left out the part where I said " However, you cannot always believe what you hear." in your quote.

mcsap it was off by one number he but a 9 instead of a 1. easy mistake

And probably his correct address too. They'll use the one DMV has. Doing 80 in a 60 isn't just a game of "gotcha".
