    NYPD, interesting observation

So I was driving back from JFK yesterday on the Hutch and I got cut off by a brand-new NYPD TRAFFIC Toyota Prius.... nice lol... The catch was, it was blue and white, not dark blue and silver. Is this the new thing now?

I won't even mention that the female driver seemed to have some lead weights stuck in her shoes... i paced her (and yes I admit to speeding) at around 83 MPH and she was weaving in and out of the lanes... didn't sit too well with me
I am on a lot of lists...

So she may have been driving perfectly legally responding to a call, and yet you choose to admittedly break the law because her driving "dosen't sit too well with you".

    Get a life.

Responding to a call huh? lol...

With all due respect, you are an LEO in California and obviously are unaware of the stigma surrounding NYPD traffic agents... for one thing, they are the farthest thing from police officers, both authority-wise and sociologically ;)

I will get a life if you get a clue before spouting off rude remarks.

NYPD Traffic agents are not the POLICE. The city sees fit to dress em up like us and now gives them cars with the same markings. They may be driving Toyota's now, but there are still plenty of Impalas and SUV's in their fleet. They carry no guns and leave their shields (badges to some of you) in their lockers. They are not permitted to take them home, as there were too many impersonation problems with them in the past.

Things have gotten better since they were merged into our job, less confrontations and such. You have to really live and work here to understand. Hope this explained it somewhat?

Thanks Basher for seconding my statements. But my original purpose for this thread was simply to inquire as to why they are now driving blue and white cars... Prius or not... though that has got to be the first "police" vehicle I have seen in a long time that was not American-made.

And actually, would anyone like to chime in on why most PDs use American cars... I have seen Saabs in Aspen and Vail... but otherwise mostly Dodge, GM and Ford....

The NYPD is doing its best to go GREEN. We also have purchased HyBrid Envoys and some Escapes I'm told. Also, it appears CRS has now gone to purchasing all white vehicles. They have a new striping which gets wider along the rear fender with the command. They are even doing it for AUX cars. Hope this helps,,,,

    all white vehicles = cheaper

Also it may be to make an appearance of a larger force.
    DONLON
I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.
