Stolen Trash Can and Cut Chain

My question is in regards a trash service. I have my service paid for until the end of the month. The company charges me for three months in advance and supplies a trash can for $2 a month with a $35 deposit. I've had issues with someone moving my trash can down the road so I started chaining it to my mailbox on the days that it's being picked up. Last week I notified the company I will not be using their service after the contract is fulfilled which is the end of this month. They pick up every Wednesday and this Wednesday my mother observed the driver pull up and look into the trash can and drive off without picking up the trash. I called the company and asked why. They said they would find out and call back. I never received a reply. Today, while I was at work a neighbor called and advised that someone was at my drive cutting my chain. I arrive home and my chain is cut, the trash can is gone and the trash is laying next to my drive.
Is there something I can do about this? My service contract wasn't completed, they littered trash into my yard and they cut my $20 lock from my mailbox.

    Thanks in advance.....

As to the service contract not being completed, that's a civil issue. Try to work it out with the company or sue them for $35.

As to the trash can being taken and the lock being cut, can you identify and locate the person who did this? If not, you have no idea who it was and nobody can be held responsible.

    I understand.
Well, other than my neigbor seeing the truck, trailer and the guy cutting the chain with a torch, we do not have any other id like a license plate.

I guess the criminals win again.....

Just curious, how do they dump your trash if it's chained to something? In my area the trash truck hydraulics would rip my mailbox out of the ground and toss it into the back of the truck.
