    NYPD Suggestions needed

Hello all! I am very interested in joining the NYPD once I get out of the military, but not too sure when is the best time to take the test.

I am currently stationed in Arkansas and I don't get out of the military until May of 2011. I want to set things up to where when I get out, I can head straight into the process and become an officer ASAP.

One of the biggest issues for me right now is getting leave at the exact time the test is available. My question to all of you that have been through the process is, when is the best time to take this test? What is the ideal score I would need to ensure that I can get on the job ASAP?

And one last question, does anyone know how often and specifically what months the NYPD traditionally gives the tests?

    Thanks!

There are actually walk in tests in the City that you can just walk in and take. no need to register or anything. 10am and 2pm M- F and i think on certain days also 7pm.

Check on NYPDrecruit.com or call 212 recruit and you will see the walk in days and times.

Also I would take the test as soon as possible being the earlier exam you take the more seniority you have when you graduate amongst your peers when your on 6 month foot post and you will get to pick your vacation before them.

You can also look into the Quest program being you are out of state and they do the entire process in a few days I believe.

Wow this is great information! I never knew that they had walk in during the week. The next time I decide to come home, I'm going to have give them a call and see if I can take the test. Thanks a lot of for your response, it's appreciated.

Tests expire 24 months after given. While you are ahead by planning....don't take the test until you are a year out. Then do the Quest program. It will give you plenty of time to slide right in and not be a headache deferring paperwork.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

I called the NYPD yesterday and they said I can take my test now and they will hold it until the end of the enlistment. It doesn't expire for military. Just for future reference.
