Sex Laws (CT Resident)

I have been searching all over for an answer to this question and am grateful to have found this site.

Okay, so I understand that it is illegal to have a sexual relationship with an individual who is under the age of 18 if you are over the age of 18, but, is it illegal to have a non-sexual relationship or even friendship with someone underage? Let's say a car gets stopped and the driver is a male 20 year old and his passenger is a 17 year old female. What will happen?

Is it illegal to hang around with under aged people if you are over 18?

If someone could just clear this up for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I've been searching for the past few months on this topic.

When you title the thread "Sex laws" it seems you are interested in more than just "hanging around" with under aged people.

You should familiarize yourself with Connecticut General Statute 53a-71, Sexual Assault in the Second Degree. If you are 20 and in a consensual relationship with a 17 year old you are probably not doing anything except exhibiting poor judgment. However, if you are a coach or teacher or even a volunteer working with the 17-year-old you are violating the law.

I titled my question "sex laws" because that is the only logical way of asking this type of question.

Also, hence the nature of my question, I am on here inquiring about the laws because I have friends.. both guys and girls (and I'm pretty sure that homosexual sex with a male under the age of 18 is statutory rape also) who I am friends with and have been friends with when I was underage. It's not about impressing a "woman"... actually an underaged "woman" I would consider a "girl".

Homosexual sex is not classified any differently than heterosexual sex. It is all covered by the same statutes.
