what to do about my family's views

After high school I want to go to college then to the academy to start training to become a police officer, and that is what I want my career to be. Right now I do good in school and keep my grades up, and I am joining the police explorer program too. Right now mostly everyone in my family doesn't want me to continue trying to strive to become a police officer. I really don't understand why they don't want me to do it. But I was wondering when I am ready to be a police officer and someone does a background check on me, and talks to my friends and family. Does my family's opinion or voice make any difference what so ever on the background check, if they do not want me to become a police officer?

It depends. Will you let your families opinion hinder your ability to be a good police officer. If you can see past that and let your BI know that even tho they think that, you still want to do it, I dont see any problem with him.
You can bet that I stand ready, when the Wolf growls at your door.

If you were married and your wife was dead-set against it, that would create more of an issue than if your parents were against it. You won't be living with your parents for much longer, so it's not like they're going to be the force in your life that they were when you were growing up. Still, it's always good to have a supportive family.

You need to speak with them and find out exactly why they don't want you to enter LE. They may have a negative opinion of the field because of the media or television/movies, but that doesn't mean that their reasons are justified.
