    Got a ticket tonight...I feel horrible...

    Well, I went down a one way road tonight going the wrong way, and it was right in front of a police van. Stupid action I know, I didn't fully pull down the street because I noticed the sign but by that time I was in the way of traffic so I started to go forward into a parking lot on the corner when the police van lit me up. It was around 10:52pm so I did'nt realize there was a police van there. It was 100% completely my fault and I totally recognize this.

    I pulled over immediately, put on my dome light, threw my keys on the roof and when the officer asked me for my license, registration, and proof of insurance I asked and told him I would be reaching into the center console. He took it and went to the van.

    The back story is that my brother forgot his license at a bar in seaside heights ( NJ ) and he was going to drive back down without a license to go pick it up but I argued with him to let me drive him so that he wouldn't risk getting a ticket. We drive the 45 minutes down to the shore and as we're driving he tells me to make a left which ended up being a do not enter. Woops After we were pulled over my brother told the officer on the right what happened and they went back to the van. I didn't know the area at all an pulled a total tourist move.

    Ironically as we were waiting another car flys by us, also going the wrong way and you hear the officer on the loudspeaker " You're going the wrong way...." the driver then circled around and came back and she was pulled over by the second officer that was in the van on foot.

    So in the end he gave me a ticket for going the wrong way on a one way street. I asked him if it would effect my chances of being hired. He said probably not and asked what agency. I said such and such agency as auxiliary police since I'm not 21 yet ( 18 and looking to get my foot in the door for later when I can be full-time ) He then said it should be fine and to show up at court and look for him and that he'll talk to the prosecutor and try to get it knocked down or so.

    Now I'm not really sure if I should send the application in tomorrow since i'll have to put the ticket on the form and it'll have a date of yesterday so it'll probably look really bad if I try to apply when I just got a ticket the day before

    I feel like a complete failure right now. I can't believe I pulled a downright shameful move like that and flushed my chances of my dream career right down the toilet. I feel like I shouldn't even bother because I prided myself on my squeaky clean record and now its all worthless :( I feel like a total and complete failure and can't believe I sunk to that level :( :(

    The only other marks on my record were when my dad let me try alcohol when I was 17 so that I wouldn't be tempted to try it another place and get in trouble, and that I have a medical condition ( that does'nt really effect me except with an injection I have to take once a week )

    Anybody have any idea what it might get knocked down to? On the ticket it says "wrong way on one way street" and it says court appearance required....

    I do plan on wearing a dress shirt, tie, dress shoes, and dress pants to court...I just wish it wasn't so far away...

    Me = pathetic failure

    You made a mistake, and unlike a lot of people it, it sounds like you are admitting it. Follow the officer's instructions about court and don't sweat it.

    Don't feel bad, I got one by my old agency in a photo radar deal a couple of years ago. There was an alternative school installed in a part of town I hadn't been around in years. I flat didn't see the school zone sign and the school doesn't look like a school. I didn't even see the radar van, I didn't know I'd been caught until I got the ticket in the mail. Great picture, had me and along with my little dog sitting on the center console of my truck!

    I mailed in the fine, I didn't want to be seen in court by any of the young'uns I used to train......

    Depts only get upset at applicants if they see a pattern of disregard for traffic laws. Good luck in your endeavors.

    I would be worried more about the medical problem, than the ticket.

    I read all of that for you to ask, "I got a ticket recently, will it hurt my changes of getting hired at a PD"? :rolleyes:
