    Knife laws

Hi, I've searched all over the internet and couldn't find an accurate answer to this question. Would the following knife be considered legal to carry in NYC?
    - The blade is 3"
    - The blade is single edged
    - The blade is fixed to the handle
    - The sheath is attached to the belt and goes into the pocket
    - The shirt covers the handle of the knife so it's not publicly displayed

    For what purpose?

Just like one would carry a pocket knife, in my case to open and cut boxes for a store I work in. I normally use box cutters that break rather quickly.

I believe the NYC admin code is 4" and not visible in public. It would also have to follow the penal law, no switchblades, dangerous knifes, gravity knives, etc. A 3" fixed blade knife in sheath not visible for the purpose of cutting boxes at work would be allowed.

A 3" bladed locking folding knife with a pocket clip would serve your claimed purpose just fine.

EDITED TO ADD - a multi-tool (leatherman, swisschamp, etc) would be a safer choice than a knife with just a blade...

The reason I ask is because I've seen those sold legally in NYC, and I wasn't sure if it's meant more as a decoration for the home or actually legal to carry.

you dont need to cary it outside your job... leave it in your locker, or in your desk..... there is no pupose to walk in town with a knife unless you are hanging around with bad people...

Check the NC knife laws carefully. Carrying a fixed blade knife concealed in CA is a felony. However, you could easily carry a folding knife on a clip without a problem.

You should probably search this site for the million and one posts regarding knives for self defense. They usually don't go over well here.

BTW in NYC if the clip is visible, the knife is visible in NYC.
