    Question regarding Evasion

I sold my 2006 GSXR 750 not too long ago for a tamer bike because I could not justify having such machine for commuting/casual cruising purposes. Regardless, since I owned this motorcycle I have met a lot of interesting characters at school or just cruising around southern California. Once in while, I would run into someone who claims that they have out gunned the CHP or local agencies because most LE will not pursue a chase that exceeds some surely arbitrary three digit speed.

Many sport/super bike riders have heard similar stories. The common consensus is that the police regard public safety as a greater variable than the successful arrest of some crazy motorcyclist so they abandon the chase in hopes that other motorists will not be harmed or that the bikers bout of insanity will subside. The other perspective is how do the police plan on catching skilled rider operating a 370 pound bike that puts 150+ HP to the wheels - is any of this true?

I now ride a Honda Shadow 750 - a far stretch from the 143 HP widowmaker I used to ride. Many people admit to simply enjoying the notion of harnessing all that "potential" power instead of exercising it while others usually get hurt.

    This is an easy one.;)

    1. We usually don't chase because essentially we don't want anyone ELSE hurt..

    2. Experienced riders on these things are rarer than an honest politician.

    3. These dimwits are a self-correcting problem anyway, why bother?

For example one "Stuntazz" fatality was from the same group as the PREVIOUS one. Even happened at the same location. It sure came in handy, I already had all their information for the report and did not need to lazer the scene. ;)

I'll bet you anything that the survivors get interviewed again within the next three months on yet another Darwin award nominee.
Don't try and outweird me, I find weirder things than you in my breakfast burrito.

NYPD highway has chargers with the SRT8 hemi. 6.1l 425hp. Stock those cars are doing high 12's in the 1/4 mile. Top speed 173mph. Think you can outrun one of them, and live?

Austin got #2 dead on the money.

The guys doing crap like you described are NOT EVEN CLOSE to experienced riders - they are immature unintelligent people suffering from feelings of inadequacy; and they believe the only way to truly feel "manly" is to pop wheelies, run at blazing speeds, "outrun the po-po," or do whatever other mornoic thing they can to endanger the public at large with their childish acts.

Also as stated, it is usually a self correcting problem.

I've been in five high-speed (relative to each area) pursuits involving "sport" type cycles.

Two of them went well into triple digits.

I volutarily terminated, meaning I called off, all five chases within a few minutes or a mile or two.

All five riders were arrested later for the pursuit and spent time in jail for varying terms, none for less than a year. That's "inside" time, not probation or extended supervision time.

No, I won't tell you how I did it.

All the " skill " that you claim on your superbike won't help you one bit when you are running from me and a bread truck pulls out in front of you.

My last bike pursuit netted me 11 citations , he crashed trying to make an illegal turn and broke his ankle. Sure, we dont catch them all but at Mach six, you'll do something you won't live to brag about.

I really never cared too much if they run or not. If they run, we'll get them another day at another time.

Either that or we'll get a call the morning after terminating a pursuit about two dead people hanging in a tree underneath a smashed up motorcycle.

Justice is justice, and it comes in all forms.

Sooner or later your group of bragging friends will become smaller and smaller. There's a reason they call it a widowmaker. We call them organ donors.

I haven't lost anyone in a motorcycle pursuit. I did, however, see someone place a perfectly good Kawasaki Ninja into the back seat of a Honda Accord at about 80 mph. Can you believe that the whole bike and most of the driver could fit into the back of a compact car through the closed driver side passenger door?

I've also seen what a sport bike looks like stuck under the push bumper of a patrol car- hard to pry them out from under a Crown Vic.

Run all you want, in the area I work we have air up nearly 24/7. They have absolutely no issue tracking bikes with FLIR. Last person that ran from motors was allowed to drive all the way home and park their bike in the garage. Then the motor team showed up 10 deep at the house and escorted the gentleman (and his bike) to jail.

Of course, I suppose jail is better than the back seat of an Accord or under a Crown Vic.

Crazy! I would like to have seen the dash cam video from Deputy Petersen's car but one article said it wasn't operational at the time...

    I .

We catch you when you crash into something. There are no 'skilled' riders. There's Only luck when it comes to 120MPH weaving in traffic. You will, eventually crash into something. Being skilled on a racetrack is a REAL skill.

You only get-away with 'evading' because some soccermom has not drifted into your path catching your fairing slightly and making you bash into a pole. Fortunately there are no minivans on the moto-GP race's. You get away because an Officer Has more regard for the public's safety in most cases, than to continue chasing you simply for a speeding fine, not because the rider is somehow an 'expert'. If its more than just speeding, or reckless driving, you wont get away because most any agency is close enough to help from the sky which you will NOT evade from.

I just use my tractor beam. Then there's nothing you can do about it. Even at full power, you're going to have shut down.
