Turning 37 and wanting to pursuit LE

Hey future co-LEO's.....as you can see in the "title" I am about to turn 37 and have finally come to the place in my life where I am going to pursuit my dream of becoming a LEO. I've done some research visiting various department websites in my area to get a good idea of the age requirements and such, and realized that I can still do this! I'm not too old....yet!

My question to ya'll is...have any of you seen or known someone that is a little more mature in age (rather than the 21-25ish age range) actually get hired on as a police recruit or trainee? I really want to pursuit this and would love to have any and all feedback. Thanks in advance!

The first guy I FTO'd was 38 and had NO experience. He is still with us at age 55.

My best friend from HS went through the academy at age 46 and is a Reserve Deputy in Florida. He has the same authority as a full time LEO.

37 isn't too old but you need to find PD's that dont have max age limits and be prepared for the physical agility test. If you are not in shape, GET STARTED.

    Welcome to RP.

Thanks for the replies! This is great encouragement!

So far the age requirements have been 21-44 or 45 with some agencies cutting the recruit age off at 35 unless you have some previous experience or military. I'm currently enrolling in a Criminal Justice degree program to at least get some education under my belt.

37 is often the Federal cut off age, there are some exceptions including border patrol which has a temp age cut off of 40.
