In NY, all we need on a department owned and operated vehicle is an Inspection sticker. Our marked cars don't have NYS license plates, just the car number. Unmarked vehicles have plates and registration stickers, but could (technically) be operated with out them.

If you were being stalked and I called you and said that I was the only officer available but had a brand new car without tags on it so I couldn't drive over to help you....would you be ok with that ??

Or if I did drive over to help , would you raise a fuss if you saw I came out to help but didn't have plates on my new car ? ( even if I was there to help you ?)

    Start using your head.

Am I required to use my lights and or siren to exceed the limit or go through stop signs and red lights in my state ? YES. Do I always do so, especially when getting close to a hold up alarm ? NO. Am I brekaing the law ? YES. Do the people at the hold up alarm complain ? NO.

    Get it ?

    Well, so now I see.....

by the last couple of statements, just most of the population must follow the law. Here In Louisiana, plates are a requirement - therefore, I would question the validity of an officer stepping out of that car; honestly - have to wonder if I have an imposter who has taken plates off a stolen car, or an officer with no regard for the law.

That may well be, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with what actions you took to get arrested. A sworn officer is a sworn officer, whether they're wearing their hat or driving a car with no plates. If you want to lodge a complaint about the officer, that's fine, she might be reprimanded for it. But I assure you, it will do nothing to help out your case. You are still responsible for your actions.

So if you call the police (aka- expecting the police to come to your house) you would doubt the uniform and the marked car with hundreds/thousands of dollars of lighting and special equipment inside, just because it doesn't have a LICENSE PLATE???? You've got a couple of loose screws lady. Actually, you're probably the type of person who would have made a complaint if the officer DIDN'T come to your house because the car didn't have a plate. Just a whiner either way.

I take it you've read every single code section regarding license plates, how they pertain to emergency vehicles, any exceptions, any grace periods and temporary registration rules and the like in order for you to make statements that this officer has no regard to the law. Did you maybe read the part where a department that loses a plate off of a car has to fill out a form and wait to be sent the replacement? How about the fact that nowhere in that code does the law say that the emergency vehicle must be taken out of service if it loses it's plate? Guess not.

How about this, ever stop to think that the officer in question didn't CHOOSE to drive that car? Hmm? Ever stop to think that the officer was assigned that car and it was either drive that or nothing? I didn't get to pick my cruiser. It was assigned to me. Anything wrong with it has nothing to do with me having a regard to the law or not. If a citizen calls, that's what I have to drive to the call barring any unsafe mechanical problems.

Bottom line- you over reacted to something petty and took it too far so you got arrested. I guess having handcuffs put on you was what it took for you to realize it wasn't an imposter.

NYPD marked vehicles are NOT registered, and only have a license plate with the police car # on it. The unmarkeds are registered.
