    HandGun Law

I live in North CAROLINA and im 20 yrs old i have no criminal convictions or drug charges and my record is clean. Im a junior in college in the criminal justice study and im currently working at a local towing company. I recently purchased a sig sauer 9mm pistol and i carry it with me in my car with the pistol unloaded and the clips in the glove box. My main reason for having the gun is is to take with me on long towing calls late at night and places that im not familer with just for self defense purposes. I also take the gun target shooting. I was wonder if i was pulled of for a traffic violation would i get in real bad trouble for having the gun even if i tell the cop before he ask me for my liscense or registration that i have a gun laying in my passenger side seat. I have no intention of harming no one but in todays world i dont wanna get robbed or jumped out in the world.

I would bet you'd be in big trouble, since the age to purchase or possess it is 21.

§ 14‑402. Sale of certain weapons without permit forbidden.
    (a) It is unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation in this State to sell, give away, or transfer, or to purchase or receive, at any place within this State from any other place within or without the State any pistol or crossbow unless: (i) a license or permit is first obtained under this Article by the purchaser or receiver from the sheriff of the county in which the purchaser or receiver resides; or (ii) a valid North Carolina concealed handgun permit is held under Article 54B of this Chapter by the purchaser or receiver who must be a resident of the State at the time of the purchase.

this is all i could find and its not really that clear about age

Getting pulled over with a gun laying on the seat next to you will get you one of two things:

    1. Arrested.
    2. Shot in the head.

Carrying an unloaded gun for 'self defense' is idiotic. Don't do it.

Contact your local sheriff's office and find out what you have to do to get a permit. Until you get one, leave the gun at home. It'll get you into a lot more trouble than it will get you out of. Tow truck drivers all over this country drive around without one.

Your best answer has been to check with your local Law Enforcement... its not like you aren't going to bump into a local on any of your tow jobs ;)

I can understand his confusion. Prior to HR218, I checked into NC weapons laws when I was traveling thru and they required a firearm in a vehicle to be in plain view... like on the dash... the way I understood it, which as a SC LEO was directly contrary to ours, which had to be in a closed container.
