    email stating an opinion

someone i know sent an email to someone and asked them "why are you such an a**hole." the recipient replied "because i can, what is your excuse." the sender sent this email like 2 weeks ago. just this last friday there was a business card on the fence from the police agency where the recipient lives, but the senders house is out of his jurisdiction. the card asked for the sender to call that officer about an email. is there something wrong with stating someones opinion

The Constitution guarantees your right to freedom of speech, but it doesn't guarantee that anyone else has to listen to it.

I love it when people ask question based upon the theory that they don't have to accept responsibility for their own actions...

I hate dealing with BS calls like that. Recipient should just delete/block unwanted emails. Unless there's more to the story, I wouldn't have even bothered to try to contact the sender (who should also grow the F up)...

Do you know the Officer's business card was left because of this incident or are you just assuming?

Also, regardless of jurisdiction it doesn't mean the Officer can't investigate something. I can investigate someone in Moscow, Russia if I want to, arresting them is another thing. If it came down to it, I could file the paperwork and have another agency make the actual arrest.

My state has harassment by comminucation. That includes emails. Our law defines the location of the crime to have occurred at either the senders place or the receivers place. So even if where you live is outside of my jurisdiction , I can charge YOU with a crime.

Cease and desist the emails and you will cease to have a problem.

Why doesn't the person just call and find out. Here's a hint: The cop won't go away if you just ignore the card. Eventually they will show up at your work/church/grocerie store for a little chat. And it will likely be less cordial than just returning their call.

From what I've seen, there is normally a pattern of behavior that leads up to any harrassment type complaint. You sure there wasn't more than just one email?
