Requirements to become a Police Officer?

Hi,

I just had a few questions regarding whether or not I'm qualified to become a Police Officer. I live in Fort Smith, Arkansas, I'm 21 years of age, I have never been arrested, nor have I had to go to court under any circumstances. I have a High School Diploma, and I am a United States citizen. I'm in very well shape, I can induce large amounts of strain and stress without leashing out. I'm an excellent peoples person, and I know I'm willing to do anything for this position. I have smoked marijuana before, I will not lie about that. As far as drugs, that's the only thing I have ever tried, and it was 1 or 2 times per year, for 2 years. I haven't used it in a year now, and will not use it again.
If there is anything I missed, please if you would, reply with questions regarding the requirements for this position.

Check with the agency/department you are looking to get hired by...

We require 3 years clean from MJ but this varies. Check with your local PD to see what they require.

From what I understand, the departments in and near Ft. Smith are tough to get in. You'll need a few more years between the marijuana smoking and your application. In the mean time, this is what you should do if you want to be a police officer:

- Don't do any more drugs.
- Distance yourself from anyone doing drugs/breaking the law.
- Keep the same job for the next few years.
- Get some college credits under your belt. Take an english class, it will help you with report writing.

Reread your initial post and see if you notice the stranger grammar. Is English your primary language? Your writing will need to approve if you are going to be writing reports....maybe some college English writing classes?

Like others said, the marijuana use will vary by department...I think you would need more time with my department, but who knows.
