    Footchase

This is a question preferably for an officer in a more rural area with relatively few incidents of violence,

How would you describe the internal processes and experiences going on when you're chasing someone through the dark, how are these effected if the person turns out to have a weapon (more akin to a stun gun then a ... gun gun) ?

Any insights would be much appreciated!

All I do is say; "get him", then move in the directions of the screaming. As for a gun, stun gun, toy gun; If you are going to bring a gun to a gun fight, be prepared to use it. It would be a shame getting killed over a stun gun. Plus, if the runner might be armed, it's going to take me longer to work my way up to the dog. Now that doesn't hurt me so much, the dog is enjoying it, so only the idiot would be having a hard time.

Not sure what you mean by "internal processes and experiences."

If the suspect introduces a weapon of any type into the equation, then that suspect will likely experience a permanent cessation of breath.

Yep, a gun automatically waives your right to breathe.....

I've been on a lot of foot chases. There really isn't much to the "internal processes and experiences." It goes to good training. You often do it on autopilot and, if it is a real SHTF scenario, it's usually a bit in slow motion... over before you know it. The "internal processes" usually hit you after is all done and the reality of things hit you.

Like Switchback said....we don't have time for " internal processes " aka some sort of Dr. Phil moment. We do what we do as a result of training, experience and instinct.

The internal processes come later when we are writing the report of the incident.
