my son will be heading to college next year and would like to become a detective. I was told that if an immediate family member has a felony record that he would be restricted from becoming a cop. This makes no sense to me. Does anybody know if it is true?

As has been said, he can't pick his family.

Who is the felon, what crime(s), when/where were they committed, was the son present, did he participate, did he know (or reasonably should have known) about the crime(s) prior to the arrest/conviction, etc...
