    Thank you,
    Ilona Thomas

    2) Why do you think it’s necessary or not necessary to be suspicious as an officer?

    3) When you’re off duty do you find yourself being suspicious of things? (People, places, situations), and if so, do you believe this has anything to do with you being an officer?

You would probably get much more out of the assignment and a better grade if you went to your local police station and personally interviewed an officer.

I have a sneaking suspicion that you are trying to get us to do your homework for you. I also have the suspicion that I'm not going to help you due to my suspicious nature.

I would go to a police station if i had the transportation, but unfourtunatly I do not, thank you for the advice though. And not to be rude but how would you be doing my homework for me? I'm not an officer and therefore could not answer my own questions but I appreciate the sarcasm, the results are ONLY for my final paper for a class....

I'll bite, but keep in mind this is only me, not all cops.

    JakeLock said it well enough.
The statement of "we wont do your homework" is because you are required to do the investigating or research and posting it on a police website and asking us for answers is not really research. it is in a small part but you need to do some leg work, go to the police station.
If you dont have the legs or bus fare, you need more than our help.
And if you thought the post a few above mine was sarcastic, phew just wait

    Oh and Good luck

Det. Frank Pembleton: Please don't be an idiot. Thank you. "

    d) Only during certain situations (specify below)

B - most of the time

    2) Why do you think it’s necessary or not necessary to be suspicious as an officer?

Well, it's bad enough that crap can happen to us at any time - why increase your bad luck and the chances that something bad could happen to you?

    3) When you’re off duty do you find yourself being suspicious of things? (People, places, situations), and if so, do you believe this has anything to do with you being an officer?

My off duty shoes are laced the same way as my boots. I put my right leg into my pants/shorts/underwear first, whether I'm on duty or not. I don't walk under ladders and I try not to break any mirrors. I keep a shaker of salt in my gear bag on the front passenger seat. If I see a black cat, I try to run it over before it finishes crossing my path. ETC...

    4) Have your family/friends ever commented on your suspicion? And if so what are some of the things stated?

They think I'm crazy. I think I'm being cautious.

    5) Do you think that suspicion is a positive or negative or a mixture of an influence on your home/civilian life?

I think it's a positive. I mean, you never know what kind of bad luck you are avoiding (by taking a few simple precautions)...
oh, you said SUSPicion... my bad...

    3) When you’re off duty do you find yourself being suspicious of things? (People, places, situations), and if so, do you believe this has anything to do with you being an officer? yes, I have arrested a lot of people in 22 years and you never know when one may see me off duty and want to pay me back.

    4) Have your family/friends ever commented on your suspicion? And if so what are some of the things stated? I dont think they notice it.

It is neither but it is a good idea to practice officer safety even when you aren't working. I would hate to end up in the middle of something I could have avoided

Out of the kindness of my heart I spent 4 seconds on Google and came up with this link for you:
    http://finweb.rit.edu/publicsafety/safety/

It's better to talk to someone locally as they can comment more local court decisions and restrictions.

Have you tried your school's library? They should have plenty of the type of information you are seeking.

As a bonus, you will be able to cite your references a lot better than "Officer Joe Schmoe, as interviewed on the internets."
Click HERE for a common sense tutorial on posting at RealPolice.net.

Thank you for those who posted its much appreciated, and as for the library, while it holds extensive information about criminal justice and studies on officers, there is almost no research dealing with police suspicion and how it effects their everyday lives, including the workplace. Thats why I picked it as a topic, I dated a corrections officer who opened my eyes to it,and wondered if it applied to other officers as well. I hope to keep up with it and maybe use it in my senior project a few years down the road. I do agree that interviewing officers myself would be much more valid and informational, however, this paper while important isn't stressed for detailed research its more of an introductory to build on so in the near future I will be interviewing officers in person but the more data collected the better and i really do appreciate all of you taking your time to interact with me.

You can always mention in the footnotes of your paper that one of your resources was RealPolice.net.

You need to practice a little personal safety and be suspicious of posting your name and location on an open forum. This is a LEO board but "knuckleheads" come here too.

In answer to all your questions:

Self preservation and family safety is the reason I am suspicious everyday.;):D
