    Eligibility List?!

I tested for the sheriffs dept. and thought I did very well. I past the test and oral board but my scores where very low. Does this mean that I may not get hired? How does the eligibility list work (in most cases) Should I try to apply to other departments or is that looked down apon at this stage? Any info would be great. Thanks, Jeff

Each department has different policies and procedures for hiring, but if you know you scored low it's entirely possible you will not be hired. Can't tell you that for certain, as I don't work for the SO and know their processes.

There's nothing wrong with applying elsewhere. Departments realize they can't hire everyone, and know that many applicants want to be a cop. Many applicants use the "shotgun application" approach, and put their applications with as many departments that interest them. I did, and it worked for me.

Most departments use a total score of the written , oral and physical results not to mention the background check to hire you. So if you do poorly in the written , it isn't looking good.
