    Marine Corps Deserter

    Hi!

If a service member who has a felony warrant, wants to turn themselves in but is not in close contact with a military installation, could they turn theirselves in at a local police station? If so what is the process once they enter the police station?
    Thank You!

Simply explain to the desk person why they are there and they will certainly be guided through the rest. There is no specific process to turning oneself in. Definitely don't go with any form of contraband.

Can I bring in my bag full of stuff that I have to take back with me, like my uniforms and records and what not? Will I be put in a jail cell with the orange jumpsuits until the military chasers come and get me? How long does it usually take take for them to get there? Am I handcuffed?

Thank You I appreciate you answering some of my questions!

    LivinLife,

You got a response to your original question, and it was basically just turn yourself in and you'll be guided through the rest. If you're so concerned with bringing all your stuff back with you, call the local PD or Sheriff's Office you plan on turning yourself in to and ask them.

On this board we don't know who you are, where you are, or anything else about you, so we can't answer such specific questions as you are posting. You will have to contact your local authorities for more specific answers.

Now, on the flip side of that, being a retired Marine, I must say that I find your behavior repugnant at the very least. If what you are insinuating is true, that you are a deserter from my beloved Corps, then I am truly disappointed that a U.S. Marine has decided to dishonor him/her self and his/her country in this manner!

You do realize that you joined voluntarily, and now you've totally disregarded your commitment and promise to serve your country and just left them hanging in a time of war. You should truly be ashamed of yourself for not only dishonoring your country, but more so that you've left your fellow Marines hanging and picking up your slack since you've been gone.

If you are truly a deserter, and you are truly willing to make things somewhat right by turning yourself in, then I would say to you, don't worry about how long before the chasers come get you, and if you're going to wear an orange jumpsuit, and if you're handcuffed.

If it were me you turned yourself in to, I would ensure that you were handcuffed whenever outside a cell and that you wore your "uniform" of a prisoner while in my custody (since you've obviously disgraced the one that many have fought and died for). As for the chasers, don't expect them anytime soon since, as I mentioned above, the country is in a state of war, and we can't just drop everything to come pick up a slimy deserter.

Oh, and as for your uniforms, leave them at home when you turn yourself in. The chasers, whenever they get there to collect your sorry self, will make the trip to wherever they are stored and pick up such honorable pieces of cloth and ensure they are returned to a much more fitting place and allowed to regain their status as Marine uniforms by being reissued to someone who will wear them with pride and a head held high in honoring their commitment!

Ship your stuff to your post. You will not be permitted to take it. I have arrested many deserters.

Are you AWOL? Where are you located? What is your warrant for? Where is the warrant out of? Why haven't you taken responsibility already?

Um when you are DFR'd from your unit, they automatically issue a warrant and your information is entered into the NCIC system. So that is what the warrant is for.

If you are getting ANY assistance from family or friends while AWOL ...you are endangering them of being charged for helping you and or Hindering Apprehension.

Turn yourself in, face the music and get on with your life.

Any civilian law enforcement officer has the authority to detain and hold any service member wanted on UCMJ charges until appropriate military authorities arrive to take custody.

I'm not a vet, but I've at least served three years as a Reserve Police Officer (all volunteer) and over 10 years of civilian law enforcement. I can't compare my service to those in the military, but I never ran away from my committments even when I was volunteering my time. I wasn't getting paid to get assaulted, spit on, pissed on and everything else that can happen to a cop. Based upon that, I'll add my two cents worth.

You've pretty much given yourself with kiss of death when it comes to marketing yourself in the job world. There are very few places who will hire you, and you'll never have a job in the Government. About the only place you'll ever find acceptance is Mexico or Canada.

Asked and answered. I think the lass realizes she screwed up. She's at least making noises about doing the right thing, which is more than most of the deserters I've helped to collar ever do.
