Hey guys, it was brought to my attention the Federal Immigration Police, i would like to know what is the difference between this job and a normal cop? most of the people that i have asked, they tell me federal is better, because you are superior, excellent pay, excellent benefits and everything.

i would really like to know your opinions about the difference. thanks!

What country are you talking about? If it's the U.S., every agency is different so it's impossible to compare one to another. It's about equal to the Coke vs. Pepsi argument.

The difference is that ICE is specialized in immigration & customs, local Police enforce state and local laws.

First of all, I wouldn't call working on the federal side "superior". Secondly, there is no organization in the U.S. called "federal immigration police".

U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also includes the Federal Protective Service (FPS), but their mission has absolutely nothing to do with immigration. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which includes U.S. Border Patrol and CBP Officers, may be a better fit for what you're looking for.

The way I see it, the biggest advantage to federal service is the ability to switch between jobs and agencies easily. The biggest disadvantage could be the retirement plan, most federal employees only get 1% for each year of service, plus employee contributions to a TSP, and what you'll end up getting out of social security.

Pepsi is something I drink. Coke is something I do.

If you want to do police work, be a "normal cop". Federal agencies are primarily investigative, not proactive.
