    Bumper bender question

So I bumped someone's bumper today as I was pulling out of a parallel parking space on the street (in Los Feliz, which I assume is LAPD jurisdiction). The other driver saw me do it and said not to worry about it, it was okay (I stopped), so we didn't exchange information. But then before I drove off they took a picture of my license plate.

So... why would they do that, and should I notify anyone about what happened? As far as I could tell there was no damage, and I don't have any names or other info, but I did make a note of their license number as well. I don't want to get in trouble, and I do want to do whatever's right.

    Thanks in advance!

By the way, this is an awesome site.

If it makes you feel uncomfortable...call the appropriate PD and advise them of what happened. In most every case it is too late to make a report but you could ask that an officer include your information on his/her daily log as an information only entry.

If this happens here in PA , we will NOT investigate accidents after people leave voluntarily. The other party would be completely on their own.

My guess is they just wanted to have your plate " in case they found damage " later.

It does make me uncomfortable, so I'll go ahead and call the LAPD as you advise. Thanks!
