Geez louise, how in the world do you folks on the left coast get anything done. ha ha. With few exceptions, we can shoot radar just about anyplace. The speed limit is set and enforced. Thanks though, I was just curious. I guess that is why the CA drivers are always so surprised. ha ha.

I have problem with the "speed trap" term. By calling it a 'trap', (making it sound closer to 'entrapment'), it carries a connotation that we're the ones doing something illegal or wrong, instead of the idiot speeders themselves. It's an example of "When you have no defense, attack the the one that caught you".

The term used to mean stretches of roadway that had drastic drops in posted speed limits (55 to 25) with no warning and for no explicible reason. Now, anytime some Bozo gets a speeding ticket, no matter where it happens or what the speed limit was, he claims he got caught in a "speed trap".

Years of getting accused of this, along with the "Have to get your quota" line has made me stop giving any kind of warnings, stop reducing speed MPH numbers, and stop listening to excuses altogether.

If I stop someone, they get the ticket.

I popped a guy from Cali a couple of months ago. He was livid and went on this diatribe about how I wouldn't be able to do this there, etc. etc. I politely explained to him that this is not California. He used some colorful language, and after he signed he chunked the clipboard and pen back at me. It bounced off my chest and onto the ground.

So he got to see what our jails look like in Texas too! Always willing to be a tour guide

Guy from CA could have stayed here to get arrested for throwing a pen at an officer, no need to go all the way to TX for that sort of special treatment.

I managed to gain an honorable mention at speedtraps.org. Cool thing about that site is you can post there yourself...like "don't speed near first and main, I've met the cop thereand he's an unforgiving SOB". ;)

There is no such thing as a speed trap (that I'm aware of) in ND. Our laws are written so that on the highway limits can only drop 20 and in a municipality they can only drop 10.

We can run radar wherever we want, pace and do timed checks.

I sit on blind areas quite frequently and our judge here has upheld my tickets time and time again.

Also, would you charge a pen bouncing off your chest as Assault on a PO? For some reason I'm think that really wouldn't fly here. I was thinking DisCon, but that (according to our laws) is impossible since I'm an LEO.

I had a woman complain about my "speedtrap" yesterday.

We have a bridge that is 50mph, then drops to 45mph. Then their is a gigantic sign that says "REDUCE SPEED AHEAD," Then another sign "SLOW DOWN 30MPH" Then the largest sign i've ever seen flashing with big bright LED's "SLOW DOWN, RADAR AHEAD, 30MPH." Followed by another 30MPH speed limit sign. I sit roughly a half mile from there where its residential and routinely get speeds of 20over

And almost everyday I get at least one "customer" who complains about the unfairness of the "trap."

Our Supreme Court just made a ruling that we can't exceed our state set fines, which effectively cut our fines in half. And probably means we have to give refunds to alot of people.

I was angry until I did some research, and they got us. Now I'm not angry, just hoping that the legislature finally puts in for higher fines. We, by far, have the lowest fines in the country.

Someone please challenge me, I bet I win.

I just charged Class C simple assault. A ride was taken, a night was spent in a cold concrete holding cell, and a point was made
