Hello everyone, I am currently a college student at a 4 year university interested in becoming a LEO (military or civilian) when I get my degree. My degree is Criminal Justice and I have a current GPA of 3.97. However, I have been faced with a major decision that I must make.
Path 1: I have been offered a chance to enter the Air Force ROTC program here effective next fall, to prepare me for a career as a commissioned ofiicer in the USAF. I would be interested in Security Forces. This would be for either 4 years and then a transistion to a civilian LEO posistion, or a career in SF.
Path 2: My other option is to complete the 4 year degree here and then try applying directly to civilian posistions without entering the military first.
Additional Information:
-I have never been in trouble (no tickets, arrests, etc)
- Never had any paid work experience (part-time)
- I have had a significant amount of volunteer experience
-The only "drug" I have ever done is tobacco, and that has been gone for a while.
Here are my questions:
1. Are you familiar with how the Security Forces career field is transistioning to a more AF infantry type field? Is it true that all of the "traditional" law enforcement work is being turned over to civilian agencies?
2. Any insight into comissioned officer responsibilites in the Security Forces?
3. Would I be competitive to a civilian LE agency at 21 with a B.S. in CJ, but with no previous work experience?
4. Just your general opinions on what path I should take.
Thank you for your time. I have tried to keep grammatical errors to a minimum as I know how much that annoys everyone.;)
