    Question Regarding Speeding

While I was stationed in Germany, I noticed some of my fellow soldiers receiving speeding citations in the mail along with a photo of thier license plate number, as well as a picture of them picking thier nose behind the wheel (this happened to one person lol..). I know that in some locations there are cameras set up to catch speeders here in the states. However, this does not seem too prevalent. Do you think this type of technology will be utilized more within the next five to ten years?

Many communities in Maine are using cameras at intersections to catch people running red lights. However, at this time I believe the state prevents citations from being issued.

We have photo radar and red light cameras in our state. The radar is pretty rare, but a lot of cities are adopting the red light cams.

Photo radar will be used more and more by our local gouvernement. The main goal behind it is to collect money and slow down middle & low income citizens only.

As their is no interception and no points attached to a photo radar citation, people that are whealthy financially will not be bother much by photo radar.

Another thing about photo radar is that there is no immediate detterent to stop the infraction. The driver is not pulled over, the infraction keeps going and, there is nothing done immediatly for the safety of other road users.

I personnally disagree with photo radar. I think they are not a useful tool for speed prevention but only a "cash collection" machine.

As for red light camera. Studies showed that while it may save life, accident increased at the chosen intersection as people are breaking sharply to avoid being caught by the camera.

Again same principle apply. The deterrent aspect of being pulled over by an officer and receiving a consequence for their actions on the spot is not there.

A kid caught stealing "hand in the bag" will more likely learn his lesson on the spot then if met 5 days later.

Coucoucis, dont forget that with our gvt, as they are saying now, they will not reduce the number of SQ cruisers and the photo radars will be placed where its hard to place a police cruiser safely.... yeahh right.... less than 6 months later the public security ministry will cut the budget for the SQ and they will place hte photo radar on the main highway (HW20 and HW 40)

LOL... I've got some kin folk that have been cruizin' for a bruizin' there that need to be tested on...

I'll never forget the day that I was in the back seat telling my sis-in-law to get out of the way of an Ambulance that was screaming to get thru traffic and she waved me off, saying the Ambulance crew was just going for coffee, like she'd just consulted her Ouija board about it... the Ambo ended up going thru a gas station parking lot to get from behind her...
