    Was he treated righ

I have a friend who was stopped by a state police recently. A female trooper stopped him. The guy had been drinking a little. He reports that the trooper cussed at him, screamed at him, etc., because he couldnt obey her instructions quickly enough. He was nervous, could not find his insurance, etc., and she just really let into him.

She finally gave him the pen test and a heel to toe. SHe then told him to put his hands behind his back. He said he didnt really resist, but just would not turn around when she tried to push him around. She drew her gun and kpet telling him that if he didnt turn around she would shoot him.

He said he was so friggin scared he bolted. Well he took about 3 steps and she shot him. He survived and all OK, but I am wondering what you all think of this.

I saw that exact thing on a police video on another copsite. The woman cop was a real B#tch. She asked him to put his hands behind his back when he asked why she just kept screaming, "put your f**king hands behind your back!" Apparently she got suspended for a time with pay or something.

I dont think he was treated fairly. Granted Im not a cop but he wasnt armed, and did not come at her. As I read it, he was running away. She had no right to shoot him as her life was in no danger.

    Vadep's response is just ignorant.

Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Cops like that give all the good cops a bad name.

Jynk, out of curiosity can you tell me what the other side would be and how you can see the shooting justified (from the little facts that we know)

I didn't say that the shooting was justified. All I said is that lets say this police officer was having a bad night. Then on top of that she pulls over someone who has been drinking. You never know what the demeanor of someone is going to be when they have either been drinking or on some kind of drug. Some people really have an issue with people who drink and drive. Not that that is a bad thing, it is just that for some people that is a huge pet peeve, and they don't cut anyone breaks. So she is overly causious and gets overly authoritative maybe because this guy is not doing what she says when she says it and she freaks and shoots. I didn't say that I agreed with her actions either. I feel the police regardless of circumstances should be professional.

It is like this, someone who murders their husband because he beats her. I can sympathise (sp), I can see why she felt that is what she need to do in her weakend state, but it is still against the law, and she should be charged accordingly.

I don't know that is what I got from it. If I am wrong, and police officers never snap due to some of the things they have encounted, then I am truely sorry.

Assuming that all of the facts given were accurate and that nothing was omitted, she had no reason to use deadly force.

She would have to be able to articulate that he was some sort of immediate threat to her or anothers safety as far as death or serious bodily injury are concerned. Simply a drunk running away from a DUI even when ordered to stop at gunpoint by an officer is not cause to shoot ( kill) someone. As of today, there is no death penalty for DUI.

I'm not a cop but he wasn't treated right. She didn't have to shoot him. She could have chased him down and physically cuffed him. She could have hit him with her baton to get him on the ground. Given the scenario I feel that deadly force should not have been an option.

Sense of humor and sarcasm are not allowed by the non-law enforcement mods, vadep ;)

Talia, I completely see what you are saying and it makes a great deal of sense.

Darin, you just need shot for that damned mullet!!!!

Yeah a little different situation, but still the same, can you tell me how an officer where I live here was shot and killed by a drunk, when she was only responding to a barking dog complaint? A Drunk can do anything. Not saying that applies here, just giving a for instance.
