interrogation process

Ok this may sound strange but bare with me. I'm writing a book. Fictional involving a police officer and well other things. My question is does the interrogation process vary from precinct to precinct alot? My only referance for my interrogation scene is CSI, and Law & Order on television. I'd like to know if how they do it is a basic layout of how it's done. I want to be as accurate as possible. Thanks

my apoligies for sounding as if i was requesting info free of charge. I did not have that as my intent. sorry. I can ask my local police force some basic questions and can really only offer a plug in the book at the moment. Right now the book is more or less a dream project it may never see the light of day. I'm just super confused on this once aspect.

We like to stick with the old and familiar "Chinese Water Torture" method of interrogation. If that fails we try the bamboo in the fingertips method. :D

And who can forget the "Bubble-Up" method. :eek:

Interview techniques are as unique as individuals. You must first do your homework on the person being interviewed before deciding on how to approach. If you have the time, you should find out as much about the suspect as possible before you walk into the room. You want them to think you know about the first time they fingered Betty Sue under the bleachers.

If you don't do your homework, you should not be in the room doing the interview.

There is no set standard that will work on everyone. For example, are you interviewing a priest in regards to alleged child molestation or are you interviewing a validated prison gang member in regards to a homicide? You have to go at these individuals differently.

If anyone tells you any different, then they do not know the game very well.

If you are wanting to base your book on what you see on television, then your book is going to be just as fictional as the boob tube is. That crap does not work in the real world.

Oh, one other thing you may want to research.

Did the interview illicit an admission or a confession?

There is a huge difference. You want the confession, admissions pale in comparison.

Those we wish to "interview" just seem to disappear. One minute they are right there. Next thing you know, they are in some dank, third world, hole-in-the-wall. With all bets off, you'd be amazed at the number of shoplifters and other major criminals confessing their crimes.

I usually go with the "Jimmy Malone" style of interrogation. That's where you prop a dead body up on the other side of the window, so the suspect can see it, and shoot it in the head when it doesn't answer your questions.


Of course, it's tough to get dead human bodies, so I'm stuck using roadkill most of the time. It gets me a lot of odd looks, but not too many confessions.

My favorite interrogation routine involves, the suspect, me, and a good old fashioned Dutch Oven. If the Dutch Oven doesn't do them in, I'll roll my sleeves up and go for the Dirty Sanchez.
