Question Psychological test as first step...

When applying to this department the first thing step was to take the standard 500 question psychological test. I took the test over 7 months ago. Now that I have passed everything including poly and medical and have a conditional offer, the only detail that is up in the air is my psychological. I met with the psychologist for about 5 minutes about a week ago and that was that.

My question is this. Do you think that they gave me the psych test at the beginning and already got the score and profile back before extending me an offer? I am just worried that after all this time NOW they're going to tell me I don't fit the profile. What does everyone think?

Usually you fill out the psychological questionnaire to get a generic profile or to determine if you are trying to give answers you think they want to hear. Then they base the oral psychological interview on the answers that you gave and that interview is usually slotted a full hour.

The oral psychological was the very last part of the process before I was finally hired.

Would they let me go through whole process if I didn't fit the correct profile?

My meeting with the psychologist was literally 10 minutes. He asked me what animal I would like to be, why i had moved to NC, and asked about my family and their occupations. That's it.

Is it safe to say that when I took the psychological i did fit the profile and they wanted me to meet with the psychologist just to get a humans confirmation? The medical test must cost a pretty penny so they must want me..no? Waiting is the hardest part of this process!

First off, from application date to hire date was 11 months for me. I know it sucks when you are amped for a job. Remeber, it is government and the wheels run a little slower. Hurry up and wait.

Usually the psyche and medical test is towards the end because it costs the most. I can't imagine departments doing it up front. It's easier to weed people out with written and physical tests and then do the psyche and medical exams.

Like viperphi said, the pysch quesionarre allows the doctor or whoever to decide what topics that he needs to cover with you. In my opinion, if the only things he discussed with you were the things you listed then you must have a pretty solid profile and he was just trying to get a feel for your personal/peer/parental support system. My meeting was about 15 minutes and the same things were asked. I will add he asked how my sex life was and I told him it was none of his damn business. I thought for sure that I was DQ after I did that, but apparently not.
Integrity is doing the right thing even when people aren't looking.
