Did anything change?

Hello guys, I am a future law enforcement officer and like everybody I have some questions. But one question is the one that has always been in the back of my mind. Some police officers I know, tell me that your life changes after you become a LEO. For example, I like video games, drinking socially, etc. So my questions is, does anything change in your life in concern to regular activities, relationships, and overall the way you feel about life?

Be as honest as possible and thanks for the comments in advance.

What changes is up to you. In my case, even before I was a cop, I already knew that the majority of the people were pathetic nincompoops, so my becoming a cop only verified that. But as for anything else, it's pretty much the same. If anyone changes after you become a cop, it's your so-called friends. It's surprising how many of them become...weird...after you start wearing a badge.

I started so young, military cop at 17, that I did not have much change to notice.

I started to notice a change, as did my wife, when I was working undercover narcotics. This was a change for the worst as I began to take on the persona of a bad guy, even off duty. I am glad I got promoted out of that unit before I went much longer.

Your real friends will not change. Your so-called friends will only call you when they want something or will not associate with you any longer.

Of course your life will change, as it would if you were to take any new career. You will meet new people, find new socialising places and do different things. It's all part of the ageing process. Good friends now will still be good friends no matter what career you choose.
That said after 23 years I still play video games and drink socially, no change there then.;)

thanks guys, so my interpretation from all this is the pretty much all I should worry about is my so called friends because other things in will my life will change as I am aging whether Im a cop or not.

Despite what we all like to believe, this job does change you in certain ways. If nothing else, we are under a microscope 24/7. People know you are a cop, and they watch you. You kind of have to always watch your P's and Q's.
