    74 in 45

Alright, so I had a trip from VA Beach, VA to NY, when I was coming back from NY I was already about 12 hours behind the wheel and really tired. All the time I was going on highway, so the speed limit was changing from 55 to 65. Somewhere in North Hampton I stopped to put some gas in my car, when I get back to the road I saw car that was going 70ish so I just started follow him ( I didn't know the exact speed limit, new it was around 60 ). After about 5 minutes undercover police pulled both of us over, he said that I was going even faster than guy in front of me, I told him that was tired and didn't saw the speed limit but he just gave me ticket 74 in 55. So what you would recommend me to do ? just prepay it ( which mean that my record will be with speeding ticket and insurance go UP ) or I have a chance that judge can make me not guilty ?

    Thank You

Were you driving your special "right hand car"? Inquiring minds want to know.

Yes, you could be going faster than the person in front of you - that's how you catch up to or pass people. Just because you were behind someone does not mean you were going slower. Furthermore what was the speed on the other drivers ticket? I'd guess you don't know.

You guess the speed limit is "about 60" (55) so you drive "70-ish" (74). You knew you were speeding. You got caught. Suck it up and pay the ticket.

It doesn't matter if you were "tired and didn't see the speed limit". You have absolute culpability, meaning that you did not have to intentionally disobey the speed limit to be guilty.

    Take your own advice:
"So what you would recommend me to do ? just prepay it"

P.S. I saw a funny movie the other day, I think it was called Dub and Dubber :D

You were admittedly speeding. Have some integrity and pay your fine. Or, you could show that you are a spineless untruthful turd, and go to court and lie about your speed in the hopes you will get off.

You shouldn't have been behind the wheel if you were that tired (and stupid)...

Exactly, it's your fault you were speeding maybe taking a nap in a rest stop would have been the "SMART", thing to do!!!!

You were extremely tired , didn't know how fast you were going and were going 29 mph over the limit. Actually , you were just following another car hoping he would " run interference" for you so you wouldn't get a ticket.

Sounds like you have GUILTY written all over you.

Just what possible defense could you have ?

And , it is possible that the points you would get may not end up on your license if you are not from Virginia.

I think this pretty much sums it up nicely. Really no need for the original poster to tell us "why" he/she was speeding, and everyone else pretty much nailed the fact that "why" doesn't matter in this case.

Don't do the crime if you can't pay the fine. Case closed.
